You're Not the Only One
It's the time of year again when people are disappointed in themselves after the holidays. You all have these aspirations to begin walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes without stopping, maybe to deadlift 2x your body weight, or even to lose 45 lbs before summer so you can finally feel good about wearing a two-piece swim suit again.
You start thinking about joining a gym, or if you're already a member you think about actually taking the gym seriously. If you are already taking it seriously, you want to actually start getting results...
Come on people.
No matter where you are at on the spectrum, all you need to do is be 100% committed to your own success. To be committed to your goals does not mean you need to have all the answers on how to get there. It's deeper than that. It means that whatever happens you will find a way to persevere.
So if you are a person who has goals, says you're committed, goes through the motions, and doesn't achieve what you set out to achieve, you're either lazy or you're a liar. Deep down you didn't really care if you succeeded in the first place.
You fooled yourself into believing you were 100% committed to a goal that you were truly not ready to pursue with all of your tenacity. This is because you lie to yourself about what you want to achieve and you allow yourself to continue doing it.
Something here has to have resonated with you. Make sure you never miss out on the gettin' the goods.
Fitness Is and Always Will Be Confusing
I spent a lot of time in school learning a lot of things, and I still feel I know very little about exercise. I do feel bad about the current state of health and fitness. It has been made somewhat inaccessible to people, but if you really cared about your own success you would find a way.
The knowledge and the assistance are out there if you're dedicated enough to unearth it, but frankly, don't be overwhelmed by the fitness industry's cacophony of bologna. It's oftentimes not very helpful anyway. What is really helpful is taking action.
All you have to do is get into the gym consistently and work hard. It's that easy and that difficult.
What I don't mean is to go putz around for 25 minutes, play the Eye of the Tiger on repeat on your Zune, and be all self-congratulatory about accomplishing literally nothing. I mean go and work hard. If you have to deliberate and ponder over whether or not you are working hard, you are doing it wrong.
You are not 100% committed. You're in there going through the motions. If you're just looking to be healthier than you are now, make your life easy. Pick something, and regardless what it is, push yourself to the brink of your capabilities. Just make damn sure you are working hard.
Be honest with yourself. If you can't summon the willpower to do that, you probably should not waste your time spending month after month half-ass attempting to achieve your goals. Progress doesn't work like that.
I don't say any of this to rile anyone up. If any of this relates to you, I just want you to ask yourself if you are actually being honest with yourself about your fitness goals and how hard you are working in the gym.
If you find that you truly are 100% committed to your goals, you have been honest with yourself, and you still aren't seeing results, then we should talk. I will offer what assistance I can to anyone who asks. Just comment below, or send me a private message.
